GWEN:

❝I like reading and I can never decide what books to take with me so I take them all–but you should see my video game collection. I’m gonna run out of room soon.❞ She wasn’t kidding.

Suddenly all animosity, anger, hurt feelings and whatever other emotions she was feeling previously went flying out the window as soon as she saw Peter interact with her cat and Gwen found herself smiling. It was cute to watch, and most importantly her baby didn’t seem to mind the minor affection to his head; instead just mewing lazily and batting his paws gently against Peter’s hand. ❝Oh he will. He watches over the ship when I’m sleeping–or out around–and keeps all the baddies out. I think he likes you, though.❞ Gwen smooched the top of the tabby’s head before setting him down so he could go play with his toys.

❝Well–what do you think? I know it’s not like your ship but I think I made it pretty homey. And nothing caught fire yet, so that’s a good sign right?❞ She placed her hands on her hips and swayed on the spot, having to tilt her head up to look at him better. ❝But since you’re here you can stay and hang out. I can hold off on going to get supplies for a little while. I mean, if you want. I got food if you’re hungry and smoothies.❞ Truth be told it was nice having Star-Lord back around, even if he usually got on her nerves with all his teasing.

masking how he feels now exists as second nature to him. breaking the tension proved easy enough & gwen seems satisfied by the change in direction this little reunion has taken. battlestar already saved the day, it seems, so the cat is good in his book. beneath the jovial surface emotions, peter is dwelling upon what they discussed, what’s been said so far today – honestly, it’s all just a bit difficult for him. that doesn’t mean he isn’t enjoying their time together; that’s quite far from the truth.

          he’s missed this.

once she asks for his opinion on the ship, he optimistically shrugs, careful not to give her too much credit for the accomplishment. “ i mean, it’s OKAY … “ a lilt in his voice, somewhat revealing how impressive he thinks the whole thing is. to say it’s better than the milano, though, is impossible – ships are like the children of it’s captain, you can’t just go around claiming that your’s is the best.

that’s what he’ll say, at least, despite him boasting directly to people’s faces that his own ship is the best. kind of hypocritical, really, but honestly, who isn’t sometimes?

“ first fire on the milano was about forty-eight days into ownership. “
